How to Get Around Ravenna
Upon arriving in Ravenna, you will find yourself in a human-scale city with an elegant and charming historic center, perfect for exploring on foot or by bicycle. Most of the historic center is pedestrianized, making it easy and pleasant to move around without the need for a car.
On Foot
Ravenna's historic center is ideal for walking. Most of the main attractions, such as the Basilica of San Vitale, the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, and Dante's Tomb, are within short distances of each other. Walking through the historic streets will allow you to fully immerse yourself in the city's unique atmosphere.
By Bicycle
Ravenna is a bike-friendly city with numerous cycling paths. Renting a bicycle is a great way to explore both the center and the surrounding areas. For information on bike rentals, visit our dedicated page. You can also download the cycling map to plan your route.
By Bus
If you wish to travel outside the historic center, the bus is an excellent option.
- Classe: To visit the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare in Classe, one of Ravenna's UNESCO monuments, and the Classis Museum, take line No. 4 (but not 4D) from Ravenna Train Station or Piazza Caduti per la Libertà, located a few steps from our Tourist Information Office.
Drop-off stops are:
- Classe Scuola: located just after the Basilica on the right, facing the facade.
- Classe Piazza: located behind the Basilica. From both stops, the Basilica is a 2-minute walk. The line operates daily with weekday or holiday schedules, runs approximately every 30 minutes, and takes about 20/30 minutes to reach the Basilica. It is easy to know when you have arrived in Classe, as the bus passes right by the Basilica, which is surrounded by wide lawns and fields, making it hard to miss. For the return to Ravenna, you can take the bus from the Classe Piazza stop behind the Basilica or Classe Sant'Apollinare, exiting the Basilica to the right towards the large roundabout.
- Mirabilandia: To reach the famous amusement park Mirabilandia, take line No. 176 from Ravenna. For more information on how to get to Mirabilandia and to check bus schedules, visit the official Mirabilandia website.
- The Sea: Ravenna's beaches are eight, from Casal Borsetti in the north to Lido di Savio in the south. All the beaches can be reached by public transport. For those touring Ravenna and wanting to reach the coast for just one day or less, we recommend taking line No. 70 from the Train Station, which goes to both Punta Marina and Marina di Ravenna. This line is very frequent all year round and is the quickest way to reach the sea, heading to the two beaches closest to the city. To reach the free beach located at the border between Punta Marina Terme and Marina di Ravenna, the stop is P3 L.mare Colombo 171. To return to Ravenna, just take the same line from the other side of the street.
Porto Corsini Cruise Terminal
The Porto Corsini cruise terminal is about 15 km from the city center. Here's how to get there:
- Shuttles: We offer various shuttle services, both shared and private, for transfers from the city to the cruise terminal and vice versa. On our website, you will find a guided path to help you choose the service that best suits your needs. For more details and to book the service, visit Visit Ravenna - Transfer.
- Bus: Bus No. 90 connects Ravenna to Porto Corsini via public transport. Timetables and service days may vary, so it is advisable to check the Start Romagna website for up-to-date information. The bus stop is about a 10-minute walk from the cruise terminal.
- Taxi: A taxi service is available in Ravenna (+39 0544 33888); however, availability is limited and taxis cannot be booked in advance. You might find it difficult to get a taxi quickly due to the limited number of vehicles.
By Car
We recommend leaving your car at the hotel or in one of the car parks on the outskirts of the limited traffic zone (ZTL) and exploring Ravenna's historic center on foot or by bicycle. However, a car can be convenient for visiting other nearby places of interest, such as:
- Po Delta: A spectacular nature reserve ideal for nature and birdwatching enthusiasts.
- Pomposa and Comacchio: Locations north of Ravenna, rich in history and natural beauty.
- Bertinoro and Brisighella: Characteristic villages inland, famous for their medieval charm and breathtaking views.
- Cervia, Cesenatico, and Rimini: Locations south of Ravenna, easily accessible by train, offering beautiful beaches and numerous tourist attractions.
